Cross Platform Capability

Enigma for Macintosh and Windows provide a cross-platform encryption capability, however that capability has some limitations. If you are interested in using Enigma in a mixed-platform environment be sure and download both demos and test them to be sure your requirements are met.

The following notes point out potential problem areas:

Enigma is not a document translator. Text files for instance are readable between platforms but DOS adds an extra line-feed that shows up as a square character in most Mac text editors. Files created by Mac equivalents of DOS products (Word for example) will still have to be translated by their equivalent DOS product. Binary data type files can be moved across platforms with no problems.

If a file was originally encrypted by the Macintosh version of Enigma the filename will be adjusted if necessary to conform to the DOS limitation of 8.3 characters. Any illegal characters are translated as "!". And filenames and extensions are truncated as necessary to fit within the limited filename space of DOS machines.

Enigma for Windows does not support vaults and self extracting vaults can not be used on windows machines.
